The Sindh government on Sunday decided to impose a ban on pillion riding in Karachi from today (Monday) to ensure security on the eve of Eidul Fitr.
The Sindh home department has issued a notification stating that the ban on pillion riding will remain in effect till 1 August 2014 midnight. Secretary Home Niaz Abbasi said the ban would come into effect immediately. The step is taken following security threats ahead of Eid.
Security agencies have asked the city administration to impose pillion riding ban to avert any untoward incident. There were reports of terror activity ahead of the holy festival, sources said. Senior citizens, journalists, women and personnel of law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the ban.
