Sindh Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiana has said that the civic agencies have been given 15 days deadline for the cleaning of storm water drains to avoid any situation which may arise in case of heavy rains in the metropolis.
The chief secretary inspected cleaning of various storm water drains in district South on Saturday.
Karachi Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, Deputy Commissioner South Mustafa Jamal Qazi, Administrator DMC South Afzal Zaidi and other relevant officials accompanied him, said a handout issued on Sunday.
The chief secretary said the civic agencies had been given 15 days to ensure cleaning of storm water drains, adding that he would again visit various localities of the city to inspect cleanliness conditions. He said the Sindh government had established solid waste management board for solid waste management on a scientific basis. The board would start functioning this year, he added.
Hotiana appealed to the people to avoid throwing garbage in nullahs and storm water drains. He said the provincial government would provide all necessary resources to the local government to help it in waste management.
