Musharraf’s application, stating that his mother is ill and he himself requires medical advice and treatment abroad, requested SC to fix the government’s appeal immediately after Eid vacations so that the matter pertaining to validity of his name on ECL could be decided soon
The Supreme Court on Friday turned down former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s plea to hold the government’s appeal against Sindh High Court (SHC)’s verdict to remove his name from Exit Control List (ECL), right after Eid vacations end.
A five-member SC bench was hearing the federal government’s appeal against the SHC’s June 12 verdict regarding removal of Musharraf’s name from ECL.
On June 23, the SC bench had suspended SHC’s judgment regarding removal of Musharraf’s name from ECL and adjourned the hearing for four weeks.
Musharraf later filed an application through his advocate on record (AoR) Chaudhry Ahmad Nawaz, requesting SC to fix government’s appeal immediately after Eid vacations so that the matter pertaining to the validity of his name being on the ECL could be decided at the earliest.
“There is grave urgency in the matter since the mother of the respondent (Musharraf) is very ill and the petitioner also is in dire need of medical advice and treatment which is not available in Pakistan,” the application states.
However, according to reports, the chief justice of Pakistan has rejected Musharraf’s plea for fixing the ECL case immediately after Eid vacations. The case is now expected to be listed in the month of September.
