Acting chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has challenged his suspension in the Supreme Court.
The Islamabad High Court on July 15 had suspended the notification for the appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting chief of PEMRA. Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi of the IHC issued these directions over contempt of court petition filed by PEMRA private member Israr Abbasi. The petition had contended that Rathore was functioning despite the IHC’s June 9 orders.
Rathore said in his petition that he was appointed by the prime minister under the law. He claimed no violation was committed in his appointment process, adding that the IHC verdict was tantamount to interfering in PM’s authority.
He requested the Supreme Court to issue directions, declaring IHC order null and void and restoring him on the erstwhile position.
