Tehsil Khan Wazir, a Taliban commander from Wana’s Shakai area in South Waziristan Agency (SWA), has rejected media reports regarding the arrest of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Adnan Rasheed in Shakai.
Speaking over the telephone on behalf of Wana Taliban chief Salahuddin Ayubi, TTP commanders Tehsil Wazir, Sabir Wazir and Rasool Wazir said that reports regarding Rasheed’s arrest were baseless.
“Such rumours are spread and published in media by a third force who wants to create rifts between various Taliban factions,” Tehsil said, adding that Rasheed was “safe and sound” and soon the TTP will release his video.
Replying to a question regarding the distribution of pamphlets by TTP in which they warned to avenge the arrest of Rasheed in Shakai, Tehsil said that no such pamphlet was distributed.
On July 16, it was reported that Raheed was arrested in Shakai.
Tehsil is the commander of Shakai which is under the control of Wana Taliban commander Salahuddin Ayubi, successor of Mullah Nazir, who was killed in US drone strike. Mullah Nazir made peace deal with the Pakistani government in 2007 which is still intact.
