Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Wednesday resigned as senior minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government owing to “preoccupations as JI chief”.
In a letter of resignation addressed to KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Haq said that after assuming office for the second time as KP finance minister, he tried to fight for the rights of the province but the federal government ignored his proposals in this regard.
The JI chief added that he introduced reforms in the finance department and set up a financial discipline, which led to a decrease in the provincial debt.
Furthermore, Haq said that after the general elections, he presented two budgets and was presented with a bonus of Rs 1.5 billion from the federal government for his outstanding financial management.
