The Metro Bus project, being executed for the convenience of residents of the twin cities, has exposed many weaknesses and wrongdoings of Capital Development Authority (CDA) in the execution of several other projects, particularly roads network.

TRAFFIC JAMS, BROKEN ROADS:

The CDA had constructed 9th Avenue dual carriageway to reduce traffic congestion on the Faizabad-Zero Point Expressway but after the passage of a couple of years, this avenue became a source of traffic jams at Peshawar Morr.

No flyover was planned at the time of construction of 9th Avenue and now when Metro bus lanes are being laid out, one side of the entire road from Double Road up to Peshawar Morr has been destroyed. The situation at Peshawar Mor is even worse as construction activity is taking its time and it has affected the movement of traffic on Kashmir Highway.

CAPITAL IN DIRTY WATERS:

Another exposed short coming of CDA is the lack of sense of responsibility being displayed by its various directorates. The sewerage system in the capital used to be a model system when Islamabad was a new city but with the passage of time, the sanitation is becoming a nuisance.

As part of Metro Bus project traffic diversion plan, the traffic from Zero Point flyover has been diverted from Kashmir Highway towards H-8 graveyard and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) that also crosses a roundabout. There is heavy rush of vehicles and traffic moves very slowly but what irks the commuters is overflowing manholes at this roundabout.

According to reports, the smell in the area is overpowering and every one passes his comments against CDA while passing through the dirty water.

No one from the Sanitation department has taken the responsibility to deploy some sanitary workers to clear the blockage of the sewerage line.

The citizens, who travelled on Tuesday at the Zero Point roundabout, said that one cannot blame the CDA chairman as he cannot travel to each and every corner of the expanding capital, but the sanitary supervisor and director concerned must be asked to explain their irresponsible attitude.

In the meanwhile, manholes that drain out rainwater on Fazl-e-Haq Road were cleaned a couple of days back but mud is still lying there and if there is rain, the mud would go into the manholes and block the drainage of rainwater, worsening the sewerage system of the capital city.
