Court dismisses Gullu Butt’s bail plea

LAHORE

NNI

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Model Town tragedy’s key accused Gullu Butt.

The accused had admitted to smashing cars, however, the stance maintained by counsel of the accused was that Butt was provoked to vandalism in reaction to the stones thrown by the workers of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran. He must therefore be granted bail, he pleaded.

The public prosecutor, while arguing over the Model town incident, informed the court that Butt had smashed dozens of cars and had admitted to vandalism during police interrogation. His bail shall therefore be rejected, he pleaded.

The court after hearing to the argument of both sides rejected Butt’s bail plea.

In the previous week, Butt had been sent on 14-day judicial remand. ATC judge Rai Yaqub had heard the case on July 19.

The police told court that investigation process has been completed and there was no need to extend Butt’s physical remand. Authorities stated that no pistol was recovered from Butt’s possession.

After hearing the arguments, the court sent Gullu Butt on 14-day judicial remand, following which he submitted a bail application which will be heard later that day (Saturday).
