Zarb-e-Azb: 28 terrorists killed in fresh airstrikes

An army soldier was killed in a terrorist attack on a security checkpost in North Waziristan Agency (NWA)’s Miranshah Tehsil while at least 28 suspected terrorists, including local and foreign militants, were killed in military airstrikes carried out in eight locations in Shawal area on Sunday.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, 28 terrorists, including foreigners were killed during army shelling as part of operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The statement added that a soldier was martyred in Banda area of Miranshah during an encounter between security forces and the terrorists. It is not known yet whether any of the terrorists were killed in the encounter.

GOING ABOUT ZARB-E-AZB:

The ISPR had earlier reported on Saturday that security forces had successfully cleared two important militant strongholds in Boya and Degan villages, which were known bases of local and foreign terrorists. The announcement came the same day Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani visited Mirali and the two villages.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also claimed on Saturday that the security forces had destroyed the terrorists’ command and control system in NWA.

“There is no place for terrorism in a democratic country,” he had said.

A large part of Miranshah has been cleared from terrorists in the ground and aerial offensive that continues as part of the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation.

NWA IDPS:

“Some 833,274 people or 66,726 migrating families from NWA were registered in cities of Bannu and Peshawar until Tuesday evening,” said FDMA Director General Arshad Khan. He said 361,459 of the displaced were children and 248,633 women.

FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) officials said they were checking registrations for duplicates, meaning that the figure may come down.

TWO SECURITY MEN KILLED IN PESHAWAR GUNMEN ATTACK:

Meanwhile, at least two security guards were killed in firing by armed men in Peshawar.

The incident occurred near Rehman Medical Institute, Hayatabad Industrial Estate when unidentified armed motorcyclists opened fire, injuring two security guards. The two guards succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to a nearby hospital.

The deceased security men were identified as Akhtar Zaman and Imran.

The assailants managed to flee. The police have cordoned off the area and started a search operation.

Peshawar CCPO said security and monitoring have been stepped up to curtail the ongoing wave of violence, targeting mainly policemen.
