The number of beggars and vagabonds in the markets surpasses the shoppers in absence of adequate measures to check this situation which was also the root cause of chokking of traffic flow in the current eid shopping season.

These vagabonds mostly teenagers, roam around in the markets, pass sarcastic and derogatory remarks on women and girls busy in shopping giving them mental tension.

Majority of them availing summer vacations have no special activity now a days so they frequently visit markets with their friends on foot and motor bikes just for fun.

Their vehicles installed with pressure horns and bikes without silencers are another sort of nuisance that sucks the mental peace. Usually three to four boys on motorcyles stop in the middle of the rush area, and press pressure horns where they saw a group of women are passing by.

Whereas those on foot, just have the fun by chasing the girls. They walk in rows leaving no way for others to pass and enjoy the angry and frustrated expression of the women who are already irritated due to fasting, tiredness and looking after children who are not easily handled in rush areas.

They especially surround women specific stalls like bangles, Henna, jewelry etc. where they are busy in selecting stuff of their choice but these vagabonds are constant source of tension for them.

Ishaq Ali, who came to Karachi Company market with her family said, “I missed my taravee prayer just to accompany my family to protect them from any indecent act by these vagabonds.”

The concerned authorities should stop them from entering the markets, he complained in a furious tone.

A policeman on duty sharing his remarks said, extra staff has been deputed in markets for security reason and they try to stop vagabonds to enter the markets but they gather in main chowks and enter markets one by one showing them a part of any family.

“We cannot kick out them from the market.”

They are grown up, mature and educated people, if they do not show sense of responsibility then what will police do, he further said.
