Police and law enforcement agencies on Saturday beefed up security in the city for Youm-e-Ali (AS) to be observed Sunday.
Some 4,000 personnel, including Elite police, ladies police, special branch personnel and volunteers, were deployed in the Rawalpindi district to guard 101 majalis and 24 processions to be taken out from New Town, Waris Khan, City, Civil Line, Cantt, Saddar, Kahuta, Gujar Khan, Murree and Taxila circles.
Main procession of the city will be taken out taken out on Saturday from Mohanpura at 9pm, which after passing through Kashmiri Bazar, Fawara Chowk, Iqbal Road, Nia Mohalla and other roads will culminate at Col Maqbool Imambargah in the morning.
Other big processions will be taken out from Darbar Sakhi Shah, Imambargah Fatmia, Markazi Imambargah Kosar-e-Zainab and Shah Chan Chiragh Dhoke Rata on Saturday and Sunday.
City Police Officer (CPO) Hamyoun Bashir Tarar have issued strict orders to make foolproof security arrangements for the occasion. Under the plan, routine traffic on main and link roads will be diverted to other routes.
The police and security agencies personnel will accompany the processions, with some deputed both inside and outside imambargahs.
Police officers will patrol different areas. Unidentified people will not be allowed to mix up with the participants of processions.
It is worth mentioning that the intelligence agencies have declared eight districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi as sensitive with regard to Youm-e-Ali (AS) processions. The district administration has established a control room in order to closely monitor the movement of the processions to avoid any untoward incident.
