A medical student has been arrested on the charge of making an attempt to rape a patient admitted to the Bolan Medial College Hospital.

According to reports, the fourth-year MBBS student administered the patient – a girl in her early twenties – an injection to make her unconscious, and tried to sexually assault her in the orthopaedic ward on Thursday night. But the girl offered resistance and raised a hue and cry, drawing attention of other patients and their attendants.

The student escaped when people rushed to rescue the girl.

The Brewery Road police have registered a case under section 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code (rape attempt).

Meanwhile, Balochistan Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch has ordered an inquiry into the incident and constituted a three-member committee to conduct the probe.

The committee — headed by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Masood Nausherwani with the deputy medical superintendent and a resident medical officer as its members — has been directed to submit report in three days.
