Ambassador Jilani honours Pakistani mountaineers in Washington

WASHINGTON-

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani hosted a ceremony here at the embassy to honor Ms. Samina Baig, the first Pakistani woman to climb the Mount Everest, and her brother Mirza Ali Baig.

Samina and Ali Baig are currently on an expedition to climb Mount Mckinley, the continent’s highest peak, in the United States.

Ambassador Jilani greatly appreciated Samina and Ali Baig for raising Pakistani flag on the highest peaks around the world through their sheer enterprise, courage and commitment.

He said that Samina Baig being a young girl from a remote area of Pakistan has written history in the field of sports and mountaineering and is a symbol of pride for Pakistanis all over the world.

He also acknowledged Samina Baig and Ali Baig for their commitment to the promotion of girls education in Hunza and for their work on empowering women in Pakistan.

Ambassador Jilani assured Samina Baig and Ali Baig of full cooperation and assistance in their efforts for advancement of mountaineering diplomacy and promotion of tourism in Pakistan.

Both siblings thanked Ambassador Jilani and the Embassy of Pakistan for recognition of their achievements and expressed their love and commitment for Pakistan. Members of US State Department also attended the ceremony.
