The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday gave last chance to authorities of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to submit details of involvement of a revenue official in corruption case on the basis of which his name was placed on exit control list (ECL).
A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar was hearing a petition filed by Javed Iqbal Mirza, who moved the court to strike his name off the ECL.
The counsel for petitioner submitted that his client, retired army officer of custom cadre, was acquitted by the accountability court in a NAB reference (6/2006) relating to corruption. Later, an investigation, based on departmental inquiry conducted against the petitioner, was transferred to NAB, Quetta, for re-investigation.
On the basis of this inquiry, his name was placed on the ECL by the interior ministry without following the legal procedure as no prior notice was given to him, he said, while requesting the court to direct the interior ministry to remove his name from the ECL.
