395 ICT cops to be regularised before Aug 14

Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat was informed on Thursday that the government has lifted the ban on recruitment of needed staff in its departments and 395 contract employees of Islamabad police would be regularised before August 14, 2014.

Briefing the committee meeting, held under the chair of Senator Kalsoom Parveen at the Parliament House, Interior Ministry Additional Secretary Imtiaz Tajwar said that due to imposition of ban on recruitment, the Islamabad Police had recruited 464 ex-army personnel on contract basis in 2009 for a period of two years, necessitating the additional force requirements in the wake of terrorism and to maintain law and order situation in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Thereafter, the contract period of these ex army men was extended from time to time and last extension in this regard was granted up to 2014, he said, adding that at that stage legal process was completed and competent authority has in principal approved the proposal to the extent of the services of 395 Ex-Army personnel who fulfilled the recruitment criteria. No contract employee would be rendered jobless.

Tajwar said 395 police employees of Islamabad police would be regularised before the August 14 and all related law requirements would be fulfilled in this regard.
