Foreign secretary to reply ‘soon’ on case of missing Matin

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disposed of contempt of court plea against foreign secretary on the assurance given by the counsel for federation that all possible steps will be taken for recovery of Pakistani national who has gone missing in Dubai.

Qurban Hussain versus Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry case came up for hearing before IHC Wednesday. Counsel for the petitioner, Afzal Hussain, and counsel for federation, Jahangir, appeared in the court.

Hussain told the court that Qurban Hussain Raja retired as income tax deputy commissioner and his son Omar Matin has been missing in Dubai since March 2. The Foreign Ministry was contacted several times for his recovery but no steps have been taken by the ministry in this regard.

He told the court that Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of this court had issued orders on previous hearing that foreign secretary should formally contact government in Dubai so that steps could be taken for recovery of son of the petitioner.

He told the court that no steps were taken by foreign secretary for recovery of Matin despite court orders. The petitioner has filed contempt of court plea against the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

Federation’s counsel Jahangir Khan Jadoon held out assurance to the court that reply from foreign ministry in this regard will be filed soon and government will take every possible step for recovery of son of the petitioner.

The court while seeking reply from foreign ministry adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely.
