*LHC seeks further arguments on Rafiques’s petition

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought further arguments from counsels on a petition filed by former Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) chief Arshad Rafique seeking directions for quashing case registered against him on corruption charges in transformers’ purchase.

The single bench comprising Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu was hearing the matter.

Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a baseless corruption case against his client for purchasing costly transformers.

He contended that the transformers’ purchase was sanctioned by the LESCO board of governors whereas the NEPRA rules were completely observed in the matter.

He pointed out that his client was given bail by special judge central for lack of evidence against him. He pleaded the court to issue directions to quash the case against his client.

A counsel of the FIA told the court that the interim challan had been submitted to the trial court and the accused was found guilty in the investigation.

However, the court adjourned the matter till August 11 and directed both counsels to submit further arguments on next date of hearing.
