India said on Tuesday that an expeditious and successful conclusion of probe and trial by Pakistan of those involved in the Mumbai terror attacks would help bridge the trust deficit between the two neighbours.
According to a statement by Indian State Minister for Home Kiren Rijiju in the Lok Sabha, the Indian government had conveyed to the Pakistani government at a meeting between the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on May 27 in New Delhi that “Pakistan must abide by its commitment to not allow Pakistani territory to be used for aiding and abetting of terrorist activities against India and for providing sanctuaries to such terrorist groups”.
Rijiju alleged that 43 infiltration attempts along the Indo-Pakistan border had occurred till May this year. He added that 277 such attempts were made during 2013 while in 2012, they were 264.
He alleged that till July 11 this year, 42 incidents of ceasefire violation have taken place along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
He denied that there is any proposal to “demilitarise” the Indo-Pak border. “However, under the Simla Agreement 1972, India is committed to resolve all outstanding issues with Pakistan including the issue of Kashmir through a peaceful bilateral dialogue,” he said.
