Thousands of tribesmen from five border villages of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur Agency have fled their homes after the expiry of deadline set by the Bajaur political administration because of the likelihood of a military operation in the region.
Residents told a local media outfit that at least 25,000 people of five villages had moved to other parts of the agency and that the evacuation was still continuing. The administration confirmed the evacuation from border areas of Mamond.
According to the report, officials have refused to provide any facility to the displaced people and said that the administration was not responsible for their migration.
The report said that Pakistan Army had finalized arrangements to launch the operation in the border areas of Mamond tehsil, which is why the administration had asked residents of Nakhtar, Ghakhi, Mula Killi, Gohati and Kitkoot villages to evacuate their homes by Tuesday.
