Former New Zealand and Otgo all rounder Ian Butler has retired from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. Butler made his debut during England’s tour of New Zealand 2002 and took four for 60 in his debut Test Match.
Butler was also remembered for his six for 46 against Pakistan in the following season. Though his career was affected by injuries and made almost impossible for him to bowl. It is the main reason why he finally decided to hang his boots at the age of 32.In an interview to New Cricket’s official website, Butler told, “It is time to accept that the body has had enough. Sad but exciting times, hopefully the next chapter in life will be more family, friends and partner friendly. I have absolutely loved my time in Otago, it is a great bunch of guys and an awesome culture throughout the organisation. I really appreciate everything Otago has done for me since coming down. I am sure the lads will have many successes in future and I will always be watching.”
Butler made his debut at the age of 20 and played eight Tests, 26 One-Day Internationals (ODI) and 19 Twenty20 Internationals for New Zealand between 2002 and 2013.
