Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Raza Rabbani has said that former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf had resigned to escape impeachment motion.
Addressing a press conference at the PPP Media Cell on Sunday, Rabbani said that the PPP did not strike any deal with Musharraf over his resignation as president.
“Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar was also a member of the committee which held talks with Musharraf,” he said, adding that the PPP had made it clear to Musharraf that the parliament wanted to impeach him.
Responding to a question, he said that the PPP supports the government’s decision to try Musharraf for high treason, thus refuting former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s statement that Musharraf was given a safe passage under a deal.
To another question, he said any privatisation in the absence of approval by the Council of Common Interest (CCI) is unconstitutional. “We will never allow PIA’s privatisation under any circumstances,” he said.
