Pakistan on Sunday welcomed a peaceful solution to the political crisis that has gripped Afghanistan since the second round of Afghan presidential elections on June 15.
Afghan presidential candidates, Dr Ashraf Ghani and Dr Abdullah Abdullah, have agreed to 100 percent audit of the votes cast in a runoff presidential election after United States Secretary of State John Kerry brokered the deal during his two days of talks in Kabul.
The impasse had raised concerns of a possible political crisis at a sensitive time when the US and NATO troops are finalising exit strategy.
“We welcome the amicable solution that has reportedly been worked out and appreciate the efforts of everyone who contributed to this outcome,” said the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam.
“Pakistan has emphasised the importance of peaceful resolution of all issues through dialogue,” she said.
