Police officers in Sindh police department with high ranks and powers to have their say on matters concerning Sindh police are being short listed for immediate transfer at the advent of procurement of equipment for police worth Rs 5 billion.
Political parties in the opposition, especially Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, had already spoken much on alleged corruption and embezzlement of funds for the purchase of such equipment and linked the sacking of former IGP Iqbal Mehmood with this matter.
Earlier, in the same context, Additional IG Logistics Naeem Shaikh and now IG (police legal affairs) Ali Sher Jakhrani was on top of the shuffle list.
Sources privy to such administrative developments claimed that a relevant summary had already been dispatched to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for his approval. Conversely, Captain (r) Tahir Naveed would be a suitable police officer for the Sindh government to replace AIG Logistics Naeem Shaikh.
The sources added that Naveed was already facing an internal enquiry for alleged corruption in smuggled vehicles. On orders of the apex court, deputation in the police department was stopped.
Two other police officers, who were brothers of the sitting Pakistan People’s Party MNA Ayaz Soomro were shuffled form their positions. Soomro’s brothers, Rizwan Soomro and Riaz Soomro, were given out of turn promotions from the rank of deputy superintendent of police to superintendent of police while another officer in the same category Zameer Ahmed Abbasi, was also given a likewise promotion.
The sources said the CM had asked the service sand general administration to spare those officers but Sindh Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotyana had opposed to bring them back on deputation as he had stated that their deputations were cancelled on orders of the apex court and restoring their position would lead to contempt of court.
Despite the fact that the CS had submitted summary to the CM, the later had returned the same with orders for restoration along with remarks that the CS should now consult the Sindh law department to make the orders working.
