Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday maintained his stance regarding the trial of former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf.

“I stand by my statement regarding Musharraf,” Gilani told journalists.

Earlier, Gilani had stated that the former president had resigned in 2008 after striking a deal with the establishment and Pakistan People’s Party that he would be given a safe exit and that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had also been a part of the negotiations.

Gilani had criticised the PML-N government for putting Musharraf on trial, saying it was against the terms of the deal.

Gilani refused to comment on a question regarding PPP leader Senator Farhatullah Babar’s denial of a PPP-Musharraf deal.

The former premier advised the federal government to hold talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Tahirul Qadri, saying that the present government had added to the woes of the people.
