Afghanistan probes barbed wire installation across Durand Line

The Afghan government claimed on Sunday that the Pakistani military forces have launched installation of barbed wire across the Durand Line.

The issue was discussed during the Afghan National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

A statement from Karzai’s office stated that the Afghan Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Border, Tribal and Ethics Affairs were instructed to investigate the exact location where the barbed wire is being installed.

The two ministries were also instructed to find out the position of the barbed wire from Zero Point area.

The installation work has reportedly been started across the Durand Line near the eastern Paktika province of Afghanistan.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share a long border, stretching 2,430 kilometers along the southern and eastern edges of Afghanistan.

Militants and terrorist groups are actively operating along the Durand Line and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

The porous Durand Line has also been a source of tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan where numerous cross-border attacks have been carried out.
