660-MW power project to be set up in Jhang

FAISALABAD-

A coal based power project of 660 Megawatt capacity will be established in Jhang.

In this connection, Nishat Chunian Limited has signed a letter of interest issued by the Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) for setting up 660-MW of coal based power project in Jhang.

The coal based power project will be sponsored by a consortium comprising of Nihsat Chunain Limited, DG Khan Cement Company Limited and Adamjee Insurance Company Limited.

Nishat Power Limited has also signed a letter of interest in May 2014 for establishing 660-MW coal-combusted power project in Jhang on behalf of a consortium of Nihsat Mills Limited, Lalpir Power Limited and Pakgen Power Limited.

A spokesman for the Punjab PPDB said here on Sunday that the board had quoted the notional project cost at USD 1.2 million per megawatt.

He said the energy department Punjab would help in land acquisition for two 660-MW of coal-fired power plants.

For this purpose, a land has already been reserved. He said Pakistan Railway Authority, Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim Authority had also been on board since the initiation of the project.

The provincial government is finalizing a comprehensive and approved logistics plan.

Following the 18th amendment, the provinces had authority to develop power projects of any capacity through public or private sectors and establish required regulatory framework, he added.
