CM grateful to PM for Karachi’s projects

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for announcing important projects for Karachi during his recent visit to the city.

The chief minister said this while presiding over a meeting regarding Green Line Bus Rapid Transit project at the Chief Minister’s House the other day. He directed all the departments concerned including the transport department to immediately prepare PC-1 for Green Line Bus project so that work on the scheme could be started at the earliest. He agreed to the suggestion to get the PC-1 of the project prepared through NESPAK.

The chief minister said that the Sindh government was striving to introduce a network of modern transport facilities in the city on priority basis. Qaim Ali Shah said Karachi needed a modern transport system due to its growing population and the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit will provide a good quality transport facility. He said the Green Line Bus service would run between Surjani Town and Jama Cloth Market on 22.2 km track at an estimated cost of Rs 15 billion.

The chief minister called for presenting the bill for the establishment of Sindh Mass Transit Authority for smooth implementation and effective monitoring of all the transport schemes.

The secretary transport briefed the meeting and said that presently six rapid transit bus service schemes were under progress. He said the feasibility study of Green Line Bus Rapid Transit had been completed. It will have 28 stations and 400,000 people will commute daily through this service.

The secretary said the Sindh government was also working on Orange Line Rapid Transit and wanted to ensure its completion at the earliest. On the occasion, Adviser Finance Murad Ali Shah said the people of Karachi would have international level transport facilities during the next three years after the completion of various mass transit projects.

The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Transport Minister Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, Principal Secretary to CM Alamdin Billo, Secretary Finance Suhail Rajpur, secretary transport, administrator Karachi, DG Mass Transit and Senior Director Mass Transit Fazal Karim.
