Prime accused in Shahbaz Bhatti murder case gets bail

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday granted bail to Umer Abdullah, the main accused in the murder case of former federal minister for minorities Shahbaz Bhatti.

The court ordered the accused to submit a surety bond of Rs 0.1million.

The accused had filed a bail application but the decision was earlier reserved by ATC judge Atiqur Rehman.

Abdullah had reportedly confessed to his involvement in several terror attacks, and had admitted killing Bhatti with the help of Hamad Adil and Tanvir.

He was already on bail in the murder case of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) former prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar.

Bhatti, an activist for minority rights was assassinated on March 2, 2011, while leaving his residence in I-8, Islamabad.
