Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said on Friday that if former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had an agreement with the establishment, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was not a part of it.
In an interview with a private news channel, he said that it is the court’s responsibility to decide former president Pervez Musharraf’s treason case, adding that the judiciary is free to make any decision.
Rashid said that the complainant in Musharraf’s case is the state of Pakistan and not the government. The minister said it is up to the judiciary to decide if Musharraf actions on November 3 were a violation of Article 6 of the constitution.
Earlier, addressing a press conference, Gilani said he and former president Asif Ali Zardari held talks with the establishment over the Musharraf case. He added that it was not possible to get Musharraf’s resignation without the consent of the establishment.
He said that the PML-N was also involved in the dialogue process. The former PM said that the PML-N should not have lodged a case against Musharraf, adding that it was decided that Musharraf will not be impeached if he resigns himself.
He questioned as to how a strong general can resign without any agreement.
Gilani said that there was no chance of any positive change in the country in the coming months.
Responding to a question, Gilani said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has the right to protest but added that the PPP will not support any unconstitutional step.
“Nawaz Sharif and Khan should maintain healthy relations,” he said.
