Administration of Burns Center, Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), has transferred 20 employees and decided that recruitment of contract employees will be held under new criteria through a private recruitment company, it was learnt on Saturday.

A senior official of Burns Center on condition of  anonymity told PPI that the administration had reshuffled around 20 employees of lower ranks from Burns Center to CHK who had been working in the center over one decade due to their alleged involvement in political activities and protests against the administration.

The recruitment of contract employees would be done under new criteria by Friends of Burns Center (FOBC) through a private recruitment company and many new facilities will be offered to the employees like group and health insurance.

It is pertinent to mention here that Friends of Burns Center, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), had stopped the supply of medicines to this sole burn injuries healthcare center in the province due to increasing activities of different medical wings of political parties and staging of protest demonstration against the administration.

The administration of NGO asked the Civil Hospital administration to take the control of Burns Center again and the administrative staff had limited their public welfare activities in the center for the last few days. The official said that Civil Hospital MS Saeed Qureshi had sought one week time to resolve the matter with Friends of Burns Center administration.

He said no employee would be allowed to do job in Burns Center privately who was already working in CHK on permanent basis. Under new criteria, these employees were not justified for doing their jobs, he added.

In-charge CHK Burns Center Dr Ehmer-Al-Ibran said Friends of Burns Center had resumed their public welfare activities again and hoped that the crisis would be ended soon. He confirmed that 20 employees were transferred from the center and recruitment of new contract employees would be held under new criteria in order to improve the healthcare delivery system.
