Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary’s son Arsalan Iftikhar had turned against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a bid to defend allegations that Khan had levelled against his father and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had nothing to do with it.

Recent days saw Khan accusing former CJP of rigging last year’s general elections, inciting Arsalan to question PTI chief’s “honesty” with the ECP, demanding his disqualification from the parliament.

While the critics in the media circles termed Arsalan’s move against Khan to be backed by the government, the information minister rejected this impression while talking to journalists in Attock on Thursday.

“Arsalan is defending his father. We have nothing to do it with,” the senator said.

Moreover, Rashid said he had counselled PTI chief Imran Khan not to turn Independence Day into a day of protest and perhaps that was why he had given it a new name. He hoped that Khan would change the date of the protest as well.

Commenting on Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the minister said that the decision to launch military operation was taken unanimously by the civilian and military leaderships and they were on the same page as regards to the operation.
