Two ‘educated’ extortionists, 30 robbers arrested

Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Police claimed to have arrested two extortionists on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at his office, SSP Investigation Abdul Rub said the two extortionists arrested are “highly educated” and include Afzal, a software engineer and Imran, a mechanical engineer.

According to reports, the accused had received Rs 3 million from SHO Jhang Bazar Faisalabad Mazharul Haq after kidnapping his wife and two-year-old daughter, besides extorting Rs4.6 million from Pearl Gas Agency, Rs7 million from a house in Nishtar Colony and Rs6.5 million from a house in Kahna.

The SSP said that the police had also arrested 30 robbers of two inter-district gangs involved in robbing Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan Advocate Azar Latif and recovered Rs10 million in cash, vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones and illegal weapons from their possession.

Answering a question about the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Tahira Asif, the SSP Investigation said police are investigating the matter and the culprits will be arrested soon.

Another question regarding the Model Town incident, the officer said investigation of the incident was being held by a joint investigation team and a judicial tribunal.

To a question about Gullu Butt, he said a section of terrorism act had been added in the investigation against him and now the case was being investigated from a new angle.
