PPP will bring ‘change’ through democracy

Pakistan People’s Party is committed to bring change in the country through the Parliament and democratic means, PPP Punjab President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has said.

Addressing an Iftar Dinner hosted in his honour by the Pakistani community in New York, Wattoo said his party does not agree with Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri’s plans to bring a revolution through undemocratic and violent means. Wattoo said that the PPP is committed to the continuity of democracy and the supremacy of the constitution.

Wattoo predicted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan would call off his ‘long march’ because the country is at war.

“Tsunami and military operation cannot go side by side,” he said.

He said that the PPP was extending total support to the soldiers who were now fighting against terrorists in North Wazirstan for establishing the writ of the state usurped by terrorists.

Wattoo said that the PPP is now in much better position than in 1997 when it had only 18 seats in the National Assembly and three in provincial assemblies. But it managed to make a comeback as the second largest party in 2002, adding that there is no reason why the PPP cannot repeat the performance of 2002 in the next elections.

He told the audience that the PPP’s Punjab wing has completed its organisational task, adding that he would present PPP Co-Chairman Bilawal Bhutto with a robust and well organised Party on his visit to Punjab.

The party has sound ideological base and is in a position to take off, said Wattoo.
