Punjab Minister for Labour Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said on Wednesday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government is fully committed for the welfare of the labourers in the province.
Reviewing the overall performance of Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI), he said that all out efforts are being made in given resources for the betterment of the poor segment of the society, especially the labourers working in factories.
He directed the PESSI Commissioner Ishrat Ali to ensure that the best possible facilities of free of cost specialised medical treatment and education are provided to the poor labourers at their doorsteps.
Talking to reporters, the minister said that under a master plan, registered homeless workers of factories will be provided houses in housing colonies as the present elected Punjab government led by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif attaches great importance to the quick weal of the down trodden.
He said that labourers working in unregistered factories will also soon be entitled to avail facilities under the PESSI, when all such factories are registered.
Regarding the issue of Ramazan bazaars, Sarwar said that special monitoring teams have been conducting surprise visits to check the prices of the daily use commodities and hoarders and profiteers are being taken to task on the spot through summary trial by mobile courts.
He said that district officers labour across the province have been directed to check the scales and weights of shopkeepers, adding that those found guilty would be tried.
To a question about the checking the gauges of petrol pumps, he said that surprise visits are also being conducted at least twice a month at each petrol pump and the point is sealed on the spot and fined if such a discrepancy is found.
He said that in case of any complaint, the aggrieved person can directly approach the district officer labour concerned for immediate rectification and action. He said that even if the district officer fails to satisfy the complainant, he can visit the secretary labour.
