Court wants JIT record in Minhaj case

LAHORE

STAFF REPORT

Sessions Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing the plea of the administration of Minhajul Quran and summoned the record of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in Model Town firing case.

Minhajul Quran in its plea held the prime minister, Punjab chief minister, interior minister and other top government officials responsible for the carnage in which 14 people were killed and over 100 injured.

Minhaj lawyer Mansoorur Rehman Afridi, in the hearing before Additional Sessions Judge Safdar Bhatti, argued that the indiscriminate police firing at the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Model Town killed several but the police instead of allowing the relatives of the deceased to register their complaint, on its own registered the FIR.

The lawyer alleged that the step was taken at the behest of the prime minister, Punjab chief minister, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, Rana Sanaullah, Gullu Butt and top police officials.

The counsel pleaded to the court to order registration of FIR against all the accused. Faisal Town SHO could not appear in the court along with the case record.

The public prosecutor informed the court that the case record has been in the custody of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT). He sought time from the court for presenting the case record.

The judge ordered the SHO to produce the case record in the next hearing on July 15.
