IHC grills Secretariat Police for illegally detaining man

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered Islamabad IG to hold enquiry against Secretariat Police Station station house officer (SHO) and assistant sub inspector (ASI) for detaining a citizen illegally.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up Abdul Qayyum’s case for hearing Tuesday.

Shamshad Qureshi, counsel for the petitioner, appeared in the court and told that police officers of Secretariat Police Station had picked up Qayyum from Rawalpindi Sadar illegally detained him in the police station. There is no clear evidence against the accused that in what offence he was involved, he said.

The accused was produced in the court who told that four police officers of Secretariat Police Station picked him up from Sadar Rawalpindi and locked him up.

The court while accepting the bail before arrest plea of the accused against the sureties in sum of Rs 500,000 adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely.
