Reacting to the allegations hurled by Arsalan Iftikhar at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Monday that forces that ran a vilification campaign against Khan in 1997 have become active again.

Talking to reporters, Qureshi said that he was not surprised at the statement of Arsalan, the son of former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. “The rulers are disappointed over Khan’s growing popularity,” said Qureshi, adding that Arsalan has the right to file a reference against Khan and “we have no objection to that”.

He said that Arsalan was playing the role of a “playboy for the incumbent government”.

“Such allegations were hurled against Khan in the past too but it made no difference to us. Rather, it contributed to the popularity of Khan,” said Qureshi. He said that the people of Pakistan have also dumped such allegations in the trash can.
