As many as four alleged members of a banned organisation were killed by Rangers in Peerabad and Metroville areas of Karachi on early Sunday morning.
A spokesman for the paramilitary force told media that “two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Peerabad”. He said the militants were identified as Khalid Jaan and Zeeshan. The spokesman said arms, hand grenades and motorcycles were also recovered from the possession of two men.
He said: “The terrorists were involved in the killing of policemen in Orangi Town and were planning to target law enforcement agencies”. In a separate operation, the spokesman said, the paramilitary force acting upon a tip off conducted a raid in Metroville area of Site Town.
He said: “Terrorists opened fire on Rangers and were killed when the personnel returned the fire.” He said a terrorist managed to flee, adding that all the three persons were affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to Rangers spokesman, magnetic improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades, short and long range firearms and other explosives were seized after the raid. “These terrorists were involved in targeted killings in the SITE area of Karachi,” he said.
Two local leaders of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat were killed when unknown men opened fire near old Sabzi Mandi area of the city on Sunday. Police said armed motorcyclists shot dead both the men in what appeared to be latest incident of target killing.
The police said the deceased were identified as Qari Abdul Rahim and Noor Zaman. The bodies were moved to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.
