Bilal Yasin ask MPAs to monitor Bazaars to ensure quality of edibles
All provincial ministers and assembly members will check four Ramazan bazaars daily in the districts allotted to them, said Punjab Minister for Food and Cabinet Price Control Committee Chairman Bilal Yasin while presiding over a meeting of the committee at the Civil Secretariat on Sunday. Chief secretary, additional chief secretary, provincial secretaries of Agriculture, Industries, Food, Health, Livestock and Information departments as well as Lahore commissioner were present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that on the instructions of the Punjab chief minister, availability of essential items at subsidised rates has been ensured in Ramazan bazaars for the benefit of the common man while in addition to imposing fine, cases are also registered against hoarders and profiteers.
The meeting was informed that 15 to 17 thousand people visit Ramazan bazaars daily for purchase of essential items. Livestock secretary informed that in view of demand of potato and tomato, 120 to 128 trucks from India and 20 to 22 trucks from Peshawar are reaching vegetable markets daily.
He said that tomatoes and potatoes are available in abundance in Ramazan bazaars at subsidised rates.
Later, the minister visited various Ramazan bazaars including Shadman, Islampura, Usmanapura, Delhi Gate, Shadbagh, Singhpura,Taj Pura, Chungi Dogage, Jalal Shaheed Road, Makkah Colony, Garden Town and Barkat Market. He directed authorities concerned to keep a watchful eye on the quantity, quality and weight of essential commodities in Ramazan bazaars. He directed that sugar should be sold in plastic bags having monogram of the Punjab government.
He said that philanthropists can purchase any amount of subsidised flour from Ramazan bazaars for welfare purposes.
The minister directed that prices of daily use items should also be closely monitored in open market besides quality and quantity of fruits and vegetables should also be ensured.
