Through these lines I wish to highlight mismanagement at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a prestigious public sector medical facility in Islamabad.
On June 6, 2014, I visited PIMS for routine medical tests on the advice of my cardiologist. The nursing staff at Courtesy Centre was polite and cooperative. After a gap of three weeks, I returned to the hospital to collect test reports.
But there was no report ready as my blood sample was still lying in the refrigerator of the lab, without any pathological attention/processing. This is how retired civil servants and senior citizens are treated in the so-called elite medical facility in the Capital.
Protocol Officer at the Courtesy Centre is privy to this highly unethical, unprofessional and criminal attitude of the lab staff of PIMS. His advice was another visit for a new blood sample. On my protest they agreed to use the three-week old blood sample to carry out tests. Only an expert can comment on this issue.
My questions is: Is there any accountability of PIMS pathological lab staff? I would advise chief executive of PIMS to hold an enquiry into this criminal negligence and fix responsibility promptly. I would also ask the government to appoint medical ombudsman to give relief to the victims of callous attitude of medical professionals.
The residents of Islamabad want better medical facilities, with or without Metro Bus.

The writter visited Courtesy Center, which was especially established for VIPs. Probably the writter didn’t go to the OPD where a common man gets the treatment from. I request him to visit OPD for a routine check up as a common man and analyze the situation again.
