IHC issues notice to Federation on a plea against appointment of HEC chairman
The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the Federation and Ministry of Education and Training and sought reply within 15 days on a plea seeking nullification of appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed.
A single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Shoukat Aiziz Siddiqui resumed hearing of a plea against appointment of Dr Mukhtar as HEC chairman.
During the course of hearing, counsel for petitioner, Shoaib Shaheen apprised the bench that the appointment of Dr Mukhtar is illegal because he obtained two degrees in one year.
He prayed the court to declare appointment of HEC chairman is illegal.
This beats everything. After remaining Chairman HEC for three months or so–the appointment of Dr Mukhtar Ahmed is being challenged in the IHC. It rings a death knell for IRP. If a distinguished Educationist , is made to run from pillar to post, how can he look after the working of a pristine Institution like the HEC, where so much finance is involved and more importantly the careers of young educationists are at stake. If this state of suspended disbelief were to continue any longer, one may as well say good-bye to the HEC
