The number of registered Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the wake of military operation Zarb-e-Azb has reached to 575,000, Commissioner of Bannu Syed Mohsin Ali told the media on Friday.
During a media briefing, the commissioner said that more than 28,000 families have received financial assistance while food supply among the IDPs continues.
He said that three registration points have been set up for the registration of IDPs.
Camp Commander Brigadier Aftab also spoke to the media at the occasion. He said that almost 70 percent of the displaced families have been provided with food supply by the military.
“4.5 thousand tons of relief goods have been distributed among thirty one thousand registered families,” he said.
He added that the Ramzan packages have been distributed among the IDPs while the supply of Eid packages is expected to begin from today.
The official added that medical facilities are available for the IDPs round the clock while temporary mosques have been set up to provide shelter to families.
He also announced the establishment of an IDP camp in Bakka Khel.
More than 500,000 have been displaced in wake of the military operation in North Waziristan launched on June 15 to wipe out local and foreign militants from the area.
Tens of thousands of IDPs have come to Bannu, close of NW, or have moved to towns of Lakki Marwat, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan.
