Small-time thieves and pickpockets have invented a new way of making money by dressing themselves up as eunuchs to fool the public.
These fakes try to join eunuchs at traffic signals, begging and harassing the public and are involved even in robbing the commuters.
These imposters can also be found in shopping malls and residential areas, knocking at gates or ringing doorbells. They will not be reluctant to use rough language if anybody refuses to give them alms.
Shabnam, a member of Rawalpindi Shemales Association, said that several times they had caught fake ones invading their territory.
“Just a couple of days ago we encountered two men at Commercial Market but as soon as we drew shopkeepers attention, both the men fled away from the scene,” said Shabnam.
Ulfat, another eunuch at Sohan Islamabad, who claimed to be a member of Shemales Association, feared that the number of fake eunuchs was increasing alarmingly.
“We have found some eunuchs begging at traffic signals and behaving indecently with the public when they refuse. This is shocking,” said Ulfat.
Ulfat said they had also noticed that small-time thieves, pick-pockets and other miscreants beg and even rob people in the guise of eunuchs, which is a matter of great concern.
Sabir Hussain, a government servant, who daily commutes between Model Town and Zero Point, said that for the past several months he has been observing fake eunuchs.
“They dress like them (eunuchs) and behave like women. But they remain unable to conceal their masculine voice,” he said.
Rizwan, a citizen, said that the eunuchs are a common part of our society and usually they come around a town when there is a wedding, a new house is built or a baby is born.
“But most of those, begging in streets or markets are fake,” he commented. “The fake ones can be witnessed everywhere in the twin cities. They have been active in extorting money from people and creating troubles for them.”
