Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of Islamabad High Court (IHC) has questioned the performance of the Islamabad Police, saying that the policemen were unaware of the discipline and should appear before the court in uniform.
A single bench of IHC headed by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing Thursday.
Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Aftab Cheema appeared in the court in the matter of levelling wrong sections by Muhammad Raza, Aabpara Police ASI against a citizen Noman Qureshi in a bank cheque case. Naveed Malik counsel for the petitioner also appeared in the court.
Justice Siddiqui inquired Islamabad IG on the applicability of Section 406 in a cheque fraud case.
“How can a senior ranking officer give directives to subordinate officers that such and such clauses be used?”
The Islamabad IG accepted the mistake saying that there were a lot of faults in police department.
“Section 406 was invoked in a cheque case due to mistake of one DSP and one SHO and this should not have been done.”
The IG told the court that action has been started against these officers and departmental action will also be taken against them.
“We assure that whatever the cases will come in the court, a senior officer will be appointed in this respect.”
The court accepted the bail before arrest plea of the accused Noman Qureshi against the surety bonds in the sum of Rs 100,000 and adjourned the hearing of the case.
