National Assembly members from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not participate in the approval process while MNAs from Jamat-e-Islami voted against the bill. JI said that the bill violates the Articles 8 and 10 of the Constitution.

Senate approved the bill on Monday.

The bill on approval has now become a law and will now be implemented for a period of two years.

Law enforcement and security institutions will be granted additional powers to shoot a criminal or terrorist suspect or detain him for 90 days.

The detention centres would be under the supervision of the court and those killed as a result of this law would receive a judicial inquiry.
