The Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday directed the attorney general to take action against the responsible for non-initiation of proceedings against Ahmad Faiz, the major accused in Haj corruption case.

As a three-member SC bench headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja took up the case for hearing Wednesday, the court expressed anger over the delay in implementation of court orders in the case since the last four years, ordering the attorney general to present a report before it.

The court remarked that if no action was taken in the case then the court will take action on its own.

Justice Khawaja questioned if Faiz was such an influential person that the entire state machinery could not take action against him during the four years.

“What to speak of other counties if no action can be taken against the accused despite Saudi Arabia being a friend of Pakistan. The report by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general has disappointed us. It is a crude joke with the pilgrims,” the court observed.

Justice Gulzar Ahmad said that it seemed as if Faiz was beyond FIA’s access.

“Pilgrims were looted and no action has been taken so far against the responsible. The FIA DG should tell if he cannot do anything so that we may assign this job to someone else.”

While presenting the report, FIA DG Ghalib Andesha said that proceedings were underway with the cooperation of Intelligence Bureau (IB) DG, foreign secretary and Pakistan ambassador in Saudi Arabia. He requested the court to hold in-camera hearing of the facts.

The FIA DG said Fiaz was close and red warrants had also been issued.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till July 9, directing the AG to take action against the persons found responsible for not arresting the accused.
