Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin has said district administrations have planned a ruthless crackdown against profiteers to control prices of food items in Ramazan.

Presiding over a meeting to review prices of edibles and other essential items during Ramazan Tuesday, he said the government would ensure smooth availability of commodities at low rates. He said the ministry had issued instructions to take stern action against hoarders trying to manipulate Ramazan market.

“For this, monitoring teams have been instructed to be active. All possible measures have been taken so that prices remain within the reach of the common people,” he said.

 

1113 RAIDS AGAINST OVERCHARGING:

In the meanwhile, the City District Government Lahore (CDGL)’s Price Control Magistrates during a drive against overcharging in Ramazan conducted 1113 raids in the city and got arrested 29 shopkeepers after getting registered cases against them.

According to the DCO Office, special teams of the district administration also fined 91 shopkeepers besides imposing fine worth Rs 144,100 on violation of Price Act.

These teams headed by the assistant commissioners and town municipal administrators conducted raids on shops and Ramazan bazaars in various areas and inspected prices of commodities at local level.

DCO Capt (r) Muhammad Usman issued directions to the price control officials to continue crackdown against the hoarders and profiteers to provide relief to the masses in Ramazan.
