PM seeks names for CEC slot: Shah

National Assembly opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought names for the appointment of new chief election commissioner (CEC), which would be decided in consultation with all stakeholders.

Talking to journalist in the capital, the opposition leader said that he had a word with the premier regarding CEC’s appointment. Names for the post of CEC will be sent to the prime minister after consultations with all political parties, he added.

Shah also said that prime minister would also recommend two names for the post. In case a consensus on names could not be developed, the committees of government and the opposition will recommend two names each for the CEC, said Shah.
