Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, in view of early rainy season, has directed all departments concerned to gear up dengue control activities.

While presiding over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue Control on Tuesday, Rafiq said that indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance especially in graveyards, junkyards and construction sites should be focused to control breeding of mosquitoes.

Health Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir, Local Government Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik, Health DG Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Lahore DCO Cap (r) Usman, IPH Dean Prof Nawaz Ahmad, Chief Minister Dengue Research Cell In-charge Dr Wasim Akram, EDOs and other officials attended the meeting.

Rafiq took serious notice of the absence of representatives of different departments and directed to issue displeasure letters to heads of departments. He said that he would also convey to the CM Secretariat about their absence.

The meeting was informed that so far seven confirmed dengue patients had been reported in Punjab which fully recovered.

Health Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir informed the meeting that instructions have been passed to all public sector hospitals to finalize diagnostic and treatment arrangements for dengue patients.

The Health DG said that training had been imparted to doctors of DHQs and THQs hospitals for management of dengue patients.
