Gear up against dengue, gentlemen!

Punjab Minister for Environment Col (r) Shuja Khanzada has directed the officers of the Environment Department to complete anti-dengue arrangements before monsoon season and accelerate the ongoing public awareness campaign against dengue.

The minister issued these instructions while presiding over a high level meeting Sunday. Environment Secretary Muhammad Anwar Rasheed, Environment Director General Farooq Hameed Sheikh and officers of Environment Department from all over the province attended the meeting.

The minister said that all officers should ensure 100 percent implementation on precautionary measures issued by the government against dengue. He said that elimination of dengue virus was a national obligation which cannot be overcome without cooperation of the people. He said that all officers should complete all arrangements before monsoon season so that this fatal disease could be checked. He said that the officers showing negligence regarding anti-dengue will not be spared and zero tolerance policy would be implemented against them.

Rasheed presented a report in the meeting and said that in addition to Lahore, officers of the department have checked 20411 places throughout the province during ongoing anti-dengue campaign since March 2014 which include 11,525 tyre shops, 4,408 junkyards, 2,327 nurseries, 2,151 under construction sites. He said that 215 places have been sealed on violation of anti-dengue laws and notices have been issued to the owners of 5,292 sites.
